Any Ideas as to where I can locate spotlight in ZB4? It seems to be missing.
Load a texture from Lightbox
In the Documentation folder there is a What’s New document that tells you how to use it.
what about spotlight’s background remover? you know, the one in the video (removes background from frog image) I cant figure out how it works. Did you find it?
thanks.
When the Paint brush is selected you can fill a portion of an image with the main color. This is done by first holding Ctrl key and clicking on and dragging on the portion of the image where you want the fill to start. As you continue to drag away from the starting point, the main color will begin to fill the image. You can continue this drag and fill action until the color has filled the area of the image you want.
During this drag and fill process the color may spill into an area of the image you do not want it to, in which case you can reverse the direction of the drag and start to move back to the starting point. By dragging back to the start position you will see the color start to recede back from the area you were filling.Upon releasing the mouse button, the fill will stop. You can then repeat this drag and fill in other areas of the image with any color you like. Based on the image that you are trying to fill you may not be able to fill the area you want with a single stroke. Images that are more complex may require several short drag and fill actions to completely fill the area you want.
The Draw Size is effectively the sample size - use a smaller draw size when wanting to fill a small color range.
If you use pure black as your fill color the background will become transparent.
For more info see the Spotlight>Paint section in the What’s New guide which should be in the ZBrush 4.0>Documentation folder of your installation.
ah, you guys are awesome. Thanks for the tips!
When I double click on a texture or alpha in Lightbox it opens in Spotlight. How can you control whether to make them open in Spotlight or either the Texture or Alpha palette ? The documentation doesn’t make this clear.
Hold Shift when you double-click on a texture in Light Box to have it loaded into the Texture palette.
Many thanks works great.
By the way page 192 of the What’s New doc doesn’t say use Shift it just says double click.
To open an element, simply double click on it. If it’s a 3D model / ZTool, it will be au- tomatically loaded. If it’s a texture, it will be loaded in the Texture palette, if it’s a material, it will be loaded and selected, etc.
I know it says you can add shortcuts to link to external files but does that also work with alias files in OSX as when I add them they are not showing up.
Thanks Richard.
Yes, that portion of the documentation is for Lightbox in 3.5 which didn’t have Spotlight so there was no need for Shift. The change was missed from the ZBrush 4 section of the documentation. The right info will be added to the online docs within the next few days (as soon as the server isn’t so busy!)
EDIT: I’ll look into the alias files issue.
ahhh, ok i get it. thank you. Is there any way to mask parts of the image the way we use the regular masking tool? for example masking off a square so that it does not become transparent?
I don’t think so, but you can use the Restore brush to correct any areas that you want to restore.
Is there online documentation for Spotlight & Lightbox? I’m coming from 3.2 on the Mac and am not sure how to use it. It appears to accept URLs (in the www. dialog) but I enter URLs and nothing apppears. Can you actually view images from the web with this?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
There are pdfs of documentation included in the ZBrush 4 installation. You will find them in the ZBrush 4/Documentation folder. Online docs will be updated in the next day or so but there’s a lot of info in the pdfs.
The plugin necessary to browse the web through Lightbox was not ready for the release for Mac OSX but will be available just as soon as it’s done.
Thanks for the reply, marcus_civis. I will stop typing URLs in the text field now, knowing that the fix is incoming.
