"Spotlight crashes ZB4" Problem

I’ve used Spotlight in the past with no problems. Great tool! But today, it’s crashing ZB4 every few minutes.

I’m running a Dell XPS 1645 with Core i7 820 and 8GB RAM. My Preferences are set to Compact Mem = 4096 and MaxPoly = 21.8. (For some reason, whenever I store a Config with MaxPoly increased to 30, ZBrush sets it back to 21.8 when it restarts.) The subtool I’m working on has 4.2 million polys, of which 881152 are visible. That doesn’t strike me as something that should be problematic.

Because I’ve run Spotlight before without problems, I’m thinking it has to be something to do with my project or settings. I have Rgb selected and everything else unselected. I’m working on a piece that has a Basic Material and is polypainted (Color>Fill Object). Is the problem that I’m texturing over polypaint? It seems to display fine (until it crashes).

PS:
I found a thread addressing this problem (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=92309) marked “Answered.” But the only comment that looks anything like an answer is a suggestion to delete the config files in ZStartup. I’m not sure that cure isn’t worse than the disease. It seems like “Spotlight crashes ZBrush” is exactly the kind of problem where, in the past, I’ve seen the Pixologic folks stepping in with a solution or, at least, a workaround.
