After you use Panel loop, the thickness is free for you to create insets in it or whatever you want. I typically use the ZModeler’s Edges-Insert and the Polygon-Qmesh-Polyloop. Once you have done this, use Group-by-Normal with the appropriate angle value to assign Polygroups to isolate where you want hard edges (considering you can add Creases where 2 Polygroups are not the same color).

Here’s the finished version of the model I showed real quick at the Zbrush Summit during the Keos Masons presentation. The idea was to represent how sentient robots of the future will still celebrate the 80’s Metal culture. My idea came from the quote “The Metal will live on” from a Tenacious D song.
