Spider-Man WIP

I want to start a project and finish it for once. Since my last post I’ve started several different projects and got them finished up to polypainting. This time I want to actually texture, pose, and render a project.
This will be that project.
Here is what I have so far. The webbing took forever, it was ridiculous.

Any comments/criticism welcome!

Remeshed the webbing so it’d be easier to work with.

After creating a separate subtool for the webbing, this is how it turned out. 13 hours of work really paid off, I think. It’s a subtle change but it looks a lot more finished and clean than before. The first time around I just used standard brush with lazy mouse and a defined alpha with RGB painting enabled.

Currently, I’m having trouble figuring out how to render different materials for the body and the webbing while keeping the same light information for both. If they are different materials, the lightcap lights only show up on one or the other when I render. I’m currently using Subtool Master to fill objects with material.
If anyone has any suggestions or criticism, please share.

With drawing, I like to keep a running journal, I guess, of progress until I have a finished piece. I find it helpful so I am doing that here, in case anyone is wondering why I continue to post very slightly changed pictures of the same model. It helps me catch mistakes and builds confidence that I can make complete garbage look a bit more polished
This took me all evening and night yesterday but I finally finished the eyes and spider chest piece. After I took this screen I tweaked the material on the eye lens so it’s a bit more reflective and believable. I also changed the chest piece material a bit. Next picture I upload will be the final model and then all I have to worry about is posing and rendering.
If anyone has any useful tips about either of those, PLEASE let me know. I’m very new to this kind of stuff. Also, any suggestions or crits on anything else are always welcome.

This is the final model with some custom materials I made in Zbrush. After I pose him I’ll start working on making a real render. I was hoping to do that in mental ray but I don’t know how he’s going to look when I cut the polys down to 200k or so.
If anyone has any tips on posing/rendering please let me know! I’ve never posed or rendered anything before. This is the furthest I’ve gotten with a model.
Any criticism or suggestions welcome

Forgot to add material to the lens border.

Extremely cool!

Thank you!

As for the model, I’m pretty much giving up at this point to work on another project. I’ve been trying to figure out how to pose him and nothing is working. I tried Transpose Master. That worked well on the body mesh but the webbing was entirely distorted. Then I tried taking a low res version into Maya and using joints/skin weights to pose him. That also worked well for the body mesh but the webbing got screwed up. I originally made this model to render but I wanted to be able to animate him whenever I learn how. Unfortunately for me, I can’t figure out a way to keep a very high res model and be able to pose it. Seems I have to pick one or the other. For now, since I’m not very good at animation, I might try modelling him preposed. I won’t have a model to animate when I’m done but I can get a very nice image out of it.
If anyone knows about posing high res models (12mil polys) in ZBrush or Maya, PLEASE let me know.
