speed sculpt - alien bust

THanks guys!

piz - thanks for the comments! glad i could help.

smeagol -
thanks man! glad you like! the blue texture map i have assigned into the secondary specular attribute in the MiSSS shader, it controls the tight, controled specular ie. lips, eyes, ears etc.

MikePoretti -
thanks! i will try post a bigger one soon, its a rather big network to try take a screen of.

alancamara - glad you like! thanks!

nightwoodwolf
- cheers mate!

vexona - thanks to you too!! it is amazing how complex skin is!

also thanks to the pixologic crew for making such an amazing piece of software!! as a full time artist! i could not ask for a better tool

MikePoretti - here’s a bigger image of the shading network.

i’ve decided to make this more of a finished image, and have started building armor for him… will hopefully be able to post more updates soonish, im having to move… got a job at weta starting this week!! so i hope to have a little spare time soon.

oh yea… and for some reason, my mental ray isn’t previewing the shader right?? so thats why its black… not from mapping

wow, very good, the skin is looking great!!!
let me ask u this…I am trying to do the same setting with my model but when I connect the displacement map, everything gets to a dark brow color…before the dispacement the maps had a great color when rendering but after I connect the displace, everything gets brow(the displace works thou)…maybe I am connecting in the wrong place…in sss shading is right? but where in it? when I use a blin everything looks good…thank u…

you should connect your displacement utility into the shading group, there is a node called displacement shader… you can drop and drag it in there. hope that helps? otherwise im not too sure why it would be turning that color

hi Baker, thanks a lot for answering…I was connecting the displace map to
“displacement mat”, but when I connect in mental ray displace shader nothing happens and I get this: "misss_fast_skin_maya1SG: invalid connection to mental ray material slot: displacementShader2, use regular Maya slots for Maya nodes "!!! I am using the displace shader from maya, isnt that right? oh sorry, this is not the place for this but I am getting nuts with this, thanks

i can only reccomend watching this video by scott spencer… thats the way i go about setting it up… just play around with your displacement approximation settings to speed up render time

thanks, but Scott never uses the fast skin shader in his videos. Everything works fine with a blinn shader. But I dont know how to use the displace with fast skin. You said that u connect to displace shader in fast skin shader, but when I do that I get that error that I wrote you. the only that thing works is when I connect to displace mat up above, but I get funny colors. Sorry, I just took the time to ask u this because u are getting wonderful results with displace and fast skin…

Amazing. It looks real almost! What program do you use to set up the shading network?

Looks amazing with the SSS

Man I love this alien - the renders look great btw : )
Great stuff!
S

Did yo get all that detail with just a displacement map, or are you using a bump as well? I 've tried that also, but I’ve found that a normal map works a little better than a bump.

savagliani - sorry i can’t be of more help my friend… :frowning:
seb casthilo - thanks man! the network was done in maya for mental ray.
jesse graffam - thanks man! glad you like! i used a displacement and a bump… i origonally set this up in maya 7 where rendering normals wasn’t as good as 8.5… but im happy with the bump results

Scott! - glad you like man! love the halloween sculpt! look forward to having you down this way in november!
