Speckled renders?

Hi there!

Got a quick question which i’ve tried researching with no luck!

Hopefully some bright spark can help me out.

My renders (in various materials) are coming out looking ‘speckled’. I don’t know the reason for this, nor how to stop it.

One other question also is: I was playing around with ‘background’ under the Light tab…and then started playing with Lightcap.

This has changed a load of the materials in my materials palette. Is there any way I can get back to the default? (Flat colour, basic material, basic material 2 etc).

Many thanks in advance!

Was it speckled before you ‘tinkered’? What size is your document? http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/materials-lights-rendering/materials/

Thanks for replyin so soon!

Pre-rendering it looks as normal…but when i choose ‘best’ from the preview render it keeps doing it.

I think i’ve probably clicked or slided something i shouldn’t have. I assume this is lighting related but I just can’t work out the solution!

I assume the problem is ‘locked/saved’ to my tool…and I wan’t to keep working on it like I normally would but this keep distracting me from focusing!

also, the document is about 900 by 650

You’re screen grab doesn’t show enough of the settings you’re using. You should make the document larger, there are numerous settings in the render pallet. What material are you using?

i have double the size and it is looking better! (maybe still some speckling but way less noticeable if so!)

Do you have any idea how I can ‘reset’ the adjustments i made with lightcap? Want my materials which are under the MatCaps (basic material etc) to be back to their default settings. Many thanks!

It’s just the shadows you get with a Best render. Don’t use Best, use BPR. You can find the button on the top right of the UI or in Render>BPR RenderPass. See here for more info:

Thank you marcus. I’ve used Best render since i’ve used Zbrush so am used to it I guess. Maybe its time i start working out BPR properly.
