Sony Blue Ray rip off

Hope I am not irritating anyone for posting this, but since Blue Ray Players:mad: has some relations to gaming, and 3-D work, I want to express my anger at Sony Blue Ray player for initiating periodic upgrades for the player to play Blue Ray DVD’s…I bought Avatar Blue Ray DVD and it would not play on my Sony player Model BDP S300 (newer versions are now in the 370 models). I was told I need to upgrade my driver with down link from Sony, so I downloaded the upgrade and the upgrade did not work, I used the right CD disk it calls for and tried every which way to make it work, but to no avail. I contacted Sony on line to send one of their CD, so I will wait to see if theirs works. I have a feeling that sony wants us to buy newer models and old models like mine are no good! I was also told that all companies makers of Blue Ray player are in the same boat (not sure about this)? This is just not Right. I returned the Avatar movie!

i recall a few years ago that the ps3 was the only bluray player that even allowed updates, its not the players fault that the disk makers are adding content that requires updates.
i’ve not had any issues updating my ps3, is there no way for you to reset your player to factory defaults and update online or though a usb stick?

What is ps3? also I would not know how to reset my sony bluray player…appreciate your answer. To me it is a bunch of crapola to have to go through all of this. Is Ps3 a game player, because I talked to a lady that said her son play blue ray movies on his game player and he as to up date frequently?

PS3 = Play Station 3 (Sony). As it is basically a computer, the blu-ray firmware can readily be updated, in other words sort of future proof
As new features get added to the Blu-Ray spec, if you have an older machine there is no guarantee that these will/can be supported. Just one of those things with being an early adopter you’ve got to accept.

I have tried and down loaded the upgrade from Sony for my model BDP S300 and my player would not read the upgrade, so I figure my player is too old! I also told Sony to burn me a CD of the upgrade, I have yet to get it, so if that does not work, I have to live with it. I am not about to buy a new blu ray player!

do some research, there is a official sony pdf saying how to reset to factory defaults, and i don’t think your player is too old if it is able to be updated, sometimes they screw up though, its like updating your BIOS, sometimes risky.
