some Z works by Tomala

@Tomala I was curiouse because I wanted to see what was making the skin shader look that tone wihtout the maps applied.

Im basicly trying to replicate this in Modo. Thanks.

Like others have said, great models and even greater skin shaders! Really quality stuff, I learned a lot. Thanks!

Thankyou for posting the maps, I dont thing Modo is able to achive this quality.

Thanks for comments guys

I think there must be some way to make skin shader in modo, but mental ray has great skin shader in my opinion. I tried to make a skin shader in v-ray and it was a fail :D.

Just made some lighting tests an a little skin shader/model changes:

It looks like you were trying to go for the Cate Blanchett look but, funnily enough, she kind of looks like Aussie swimming babe, Stephanie Rice.

Cute!

Cheers,
Paul

mix_mash I’m not trying to make my elf look like Cate Blanchett at all but You’re not the first person who say that. Thank You for comment

Guys from cgtalk sugested me to try some diffrent hair style so I make first sketch of it, how do you think is that better?

i like the sec. update (not bad) but u can try to add purple color on some

btw …very nice texture and rendering , also sss looks grt

  • i dont like the ears …i guess the shape need more work and its kinda fat

Your final ‘elf’ model/image is sure to get widespread exposure - keep up the great work and I look forward to your ‘fleshing’ out of the image with equally impressive details. Congrats!

And thank you for sharing so much of work process! This has become one of the most informative ‘skin’ shader threads I’ve seen. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

btw - I prefer the white or alternately colored hair on the elf. Keep the background dark’ish/subdued and it will really make the final model ‘pop’, I think.

Keep it up, T’ - you’re doing great!!
la

White is nice.

Yeah, white is very Elf-ish! :+1: ! Great new worx - infinite thank you for sharing so much of your workflow :sunglasses: !

very good render and material ! i really like the last one :+1:

i think you just need to improve your textures now

keep it up !

BTW : agree with 3d70mohamedaly ! the ears are pretty fat

the skin right now looks like covering by a fog layer(don’t know how to describe in english:D)
i think u need to turn up the scale conversion(Algorithm control)
but overall nice texture and details:+1:

The white hair style works very well indeed!

I like what your doing here keep it up. Tomala have you looked into Hair-Farm
It’s a superb Hair modeling and rendering plug-in for Max.

Thanks guys

So I’ll do white hair… tomorow and try to do something with ears.

INFINITE yes I saw this site maybe a month ago and must say hair-farm looks great and what’s really matter it’s artist friendly and fast to use. Can’t wait to it’s release day because making hair with h&f maybe gives nice results but is also time consuming in both creation/styling and rendering.

Hair made with hair and fur, not happy with results but it’s still wip and I will add some details to the hair:

Wonderful!!! Simply beautiful!

dustbin1_uk thank You

I’m currently fighting with compositing methods of the hair because I’ cant rid of that dark outerline around hair cutted with alpha mask. You can see it on the picture below. Whole problem description here.

I think the black outline is only visible on the top of her head.
Maybe thats only at this resolution tho.
Would love to see a turnaround with hair sometime

any chance you could post a short tutorial on how you did your hair? So far the only tutorials I have been able to find are for game-quality alpha planes.

Nice work Tomala. For the hair: do you already tried to save your hair as PNG instead of an other format? with PNG you don’t have to cut the hair out with alpha mask, because it’s already on an transparent background.
Good luck and keep going. :+1:
