I have Some questions.

1. XYZR buttons only disappear

1. The symmetry buttons are unavailable until a mesh is loaded. Because they are not a permanent part of the interface they can’t be part of a custom UI. The same goes for buttons in the Tool>SubTool menu (for example).

2.You must hold Ctrl when selecting an alpha for a masking brush. Otherwise the alpha is assigned to the currently selected sculpting brush.

As to your Symmetry buttons problem…Svengali has a solution in this thread. Download his “ToggleSymmetry_XYZR.zip” file.
