ok well the title pretty much runs it up.
I am trying to install a trial version of ZBRUSH
when i goto dot his i get a message that says i dont have enough memory to install the program

Says i need 393.28MB on my H drive
it also says i have 556270.27 MB of available space

so why cant i install it?

This is probably something to do with permissions. Assuming you’re running Windows, the problem might be due to insufficient read/write permission for the temporary folders within the Windows directory – this is where the installer initially unpacks itself. Or it might be with the drive/directory where ZBrush is being installed.

Also, you might simply be logged into the computer on a non-admin account. That can create a number of issues with installation of any program.

normally i would agree to all your suggestions
and begin looking at permissions for the folders and such

however

as i was about to do this i realzied there is something i almost overlooked and something
you didnt take into concideration

If ANY of the above suggestions were true
then how would it have been possible for me to have previously installed much larger programs

say for example the entire Adobe Creative Suite 5 which takes well much more space then ZBRUSH.

So…with that added information, what other white whale can we chase down to solve this one aurick?
i would REALLY like to start learning this program and further develop my design skills.
From the techniques, samples and advice i see on this site, this is definitely the product for me
I just need to get past the installation

This comes down to simple logic.

  1. If there was a problem with the installer in general, you would see thousands of posts like this. People install the software without issue every day using the exact same file that you downloaded. (Assuming you downloaded it from our website, which for good reason is the only authorized place to download the Trial.) Therefore, the installer is not where the problem lies. (Note: I see your email address has a Trial account as of yesterday, so this possibility is ruled out.)

  2. Sometimes downloads get corrupted. However, with such corruption you almost always encounter a situation where the installer will not run at all. You are certainly welcome to try downloading again but it is unlikely to resolve the issue.

  3. If there is plenty of free space where ZBrush is being installed to but after the installation starts you end up being told that there’s not enough then something is actively blocking the installer’s ability to write to that location. However, sometimes there’s no problem writing to the location but instead something is blocking the ability to write to the temporary file location. You didn’t give the full text of the error message, so we have to guess which it is and I tried to answer both possibilities.

There really are no other options.

Where you’re running into trouble is in the final paragraph. The previous steps have said there’s enough space but now the installer is finding out that something is causing one of those variables to be invalid. In short, the installer is discovering it can’t write to one of those destinations even though said destination is reporting sufficient free space.

Now as for what is doing the blocking, there are a few things that can do this. The most common one is permissions and that is why I gave the answer I gave. This is based on several years of experience helping people resolve these kinds of issues.

There are some much more remote possibilities:

A) Your Windows drive is running low on space. Since the installer does unpack its temporary files there, if this drive is low on space you’ll get that error despite the destination drive having plenty of space.

B) If you have no C drive, ZBrush cannot be installed. You will need to create a C drive – even if it’s a matter of adding a temporary external drive that you label as C or rename one of your other drives (not Windows and not where you’re installing ZBrush to) as C just long enough for the installation to be run.

C) Your antivirus software is to blame. The reason I did not list it in my first response is that I’ve never actually seen it give the error message you’re citing. What usually happens is that the installation seems to work but then the program doesn’t run correctly or doesn’t run at all. But because it’s theoretically possible, I’m bringing it up now.

D) Your OS or destination disk drive has lots of free space but is so badly fragmented that the installer can’t find big enough chunks of space for its needs. Again, this is quite rare due to the fact that most operating systems today schedule defragmentation automatically. Of course, if you’re on XP that would not be the case. You’ve never specified your OS, so again I’m having to guess here.

E) A virus on your system could be interfering with the installation. Again, I’ve never seen such a case occur. What usually happens is that it interferes with running the program after it’s been installed. But yes, it’s theoretically possible.

F) You’re having a mechanical problem such as a failing hard drive or even failing RAM. Such problems tend to manifest themselves in other ways long before they interfere with an installer, but again it is theoretically possible that this is the cause of your issue.

G) Our installer uses the Windows Installer functionality. If your version of Windows Installer is out of date you can get failed installations. There’s almost no chance for this to be the issue, however. For one thing, that typically prevents the installer from working at all. I’ve never seen it result in this error message. For another, Windows Update typically keeps it up to date. And what’s more, you’ve stated that you’ve installed all sorts of other programs without issue. While not every installer uses MSI, enough do that you would most likely have come across this before if it was to blame.

Absolutely correct. I am not disputing that it doesnt work. Im just saying that “I” cant get it to install and am looking for other reasons from people like yourself that would cause this

As for it being corrupted, yea i doubt that too. I do get a few steps into the installation but i have to give it a custom location to install to because you are correct in saying my C Drive does not exist.
So i gave it a custom Pixlogic location folder which should also work fine

I did go back to the TRIAL DOWNLOAD screen on this site and asked for it to be sent again, but that was yesterday and i still havent recieved a new download link just to try.

Related to something blocking it, well i did turn off all and any protective programs, firewalls, script blockers and so on, but i still get the same error

Speaking of “The error message”
Actually i did supply the message, basically in full

It says:
There is not enough space to install these option(s)
Please free up some disk space or modify your selections.

393.28 MB of space required on the H drive
549160.19 MB of space availble on the H drive

thats all i get

Can you check into that download link i re-requested?

found the problem and the solution
it was that there was no C drive on this machine

So i took a thumb drive
plugged it in
renamed it to the letter C drive
(to do this i had to rename what was already the C drive…a USB port)
and then do the install for ZBRUSH

im guessing the temp folder it wants to use is automatically the C drive

All went ok
