So...tell me how you did it....lest I suspect sorcery

Ok, I really, really am enjoying zbrush. I’ve gone through tutorial after tutorial. I’m trying to absorb as much as I can and practice whenever time allows. But I’ve noticed something. As I watched a tutorial on shaders today, I realized that there is NO WAY I would have ever been able to find this out on my own. I’m starting to get the impression that most of you are from Hogwart’s.

So how did you all learn so much. Is it practice? Formal training in a class? DVD’s? I’m willing to try anything to improve my knowledge. I have a reasonable amount of talent when it comes to sculpting, but the technology behind zbrush is acting like handcuffs right now. I need to find out the best way to squash more information into my brain.

Any suggestions?

I’m kinda in the same boat with trying to learn the program and sculpting.

I ended up checking out some of the third-party training sites. The biggest help on getting some kind of grip on the program was the Introduction to ZBrush 4 (Scott Spencer) on the Gnomon Workshop site. Its 14 hours.

Since my anatomy knowledge is limited, a friend suggested I subscribe to the ZBrushWorkshops site. They said there’s a good mix of ZBrush and anatomy training there. I’m tempted to do it - at least for a while. At $45 a month, I’ll be trying to to learn as much as I can in short order.

Thank you!

I’ve got a couple of the books; Introduction to ZBrush 4 and ZBrush Character Creation and I also have the Eat3d hard surface techniques dvd. Those have all been invaluable in getting the basics of the tools down. But I have to tell you that practice will do you more good than anything. I still make one mistake after the other, but I’ve learned to never give up. You can’t mess anything up past all hope. Learn new techniques and experiment above all. About half of what I know now is stuff I just tried out to see if it would work, and believe me I still have a ton of stuff to learn.

besides the books there are tons of free zbrush videos online just google zbrush4 zbrush4r2 or dynamesh and click on videos
