Snakehook Brush Problem

I’ll admit I’m a total noob at Zbrush, so forgive me if the answer is obvious, but according to the snake hook tutorial on this page (http://www.pixologic.com/zclassroom/homeroom/lesson/3d-brushes/), the subtool I’m stretching should follow the contour of the other subtools when I hold the alt key while dragging. Instead, the brush just behaves like it usually does :(. Help?

I’m using OSX 6.8, 4r4 if that helps. I’ve tried masking the other subtool and converted to dynamesh, but no dice.

Make sure Dynamesh is turned on and turn up the Dynamesh Resolution. The higher the resolution, the better it will work. Also, remesh often (Ctrl+drag on canvas).

I went up to the max resolution and subdivided a few times and the hair still goes straight through the back. Any other things to try?

Have you checked for an update? It should say 4R4 P2. Might make a difference.

edit: moot point.

It might help if you can post images of the problem with the ‘Tool > Geometry > Dynamesh’ subpalette open.

Well, I found out what I was doing wrong. I didn’t really use the subtool palette, I was inserting meshes with Dynamesh instead of actually creating a new part. To anyone who is having trouble getting the snakehook alt key function to work, make sure you understand subtools.
