snakehook brush not working in 3.5

In 2.5d mode, when I use the snakehook brush or another hook brush it just removes a square of the surface and offsets it. It does not pull up a nice litle swirly cone that I am used to in earlier versions. I am using 3.5 which I just got today.

Is this happening for anyone else?

Change the alpha to one of the soft focus radials. It works, its just got the wrong alpha by default for some reason.

In fact, all the brushes appear mildly “broken”, in that they dont “remember” any alpha at all…they just use the last alpha selected from the previous tool.

This is not the behavior from previous versions, the brushes had a default alpha, and remembered alphas set for individual brushes.

i have the forgetting of alpha’s aswell (in 3.1 still)

That was the problem…thanks for the tip!

The behaviour of the selected alpha has changed in 3.5. The alpha will remain the same across tools and change with each brush. When using 2.5D tools, simply select the alpha which you want use.

I suppose it’s not a huge issue, but there are some 2.5 D brushes that simply dont work right now with the default settings. The aforementioned Snake hook, the hook brush, the decobrush which always had a default alpha and texture setting to produce a unique effect, etc.

Is there a way to transfer these brush defaults from the previous version into the new one? I realize the idea of ZB as a 2.5 D program has been largely abandoned to cater to the animation user base, but it would be nice to at least not move backwards in functionality.

Hi Bingo_Jackson,

Not all features of ZBrush 4 have made it into 3.5. In Z4, the alpha and texture palette will be handeld differently and you will not need to manually set the correct alpha for each 2.5D tool.

And, thank you for sharing your knowledge of ZBrush by helping other ZBC members with their questions:)

Good to hear! And thank YOU, “Support”
