smug wizard and his li'l familiar

Haha, all those heads must tire everyone here.
So I decided to make it worse with yet ANOTHER old geezer.

Anyway, don’t let it ruin your day.

Greetz,

Bimm

Credit where it’s due; I used Sheb’s headcavas as a base, Sokars lighting setup and a skin I found on this forum, but I forgot whose (it was named Skinman05B)

Very cool Bimm.

Very good detailing!

I’m never tired of looking at heads. Great work!

Thanks guys, very much appreciated.

I’m trying my hand on some displacement atm, I find it kinda difficult…

Anyone got a good tip or a decent tutorial?

Hi,

Just dropping by to place another pic.
Don’t know if I am finished with this one, he could use some more work; I’m not really satisfied with the eyes.

cheers.

Bimm

I couldnt find the Skinman05B here on the froum can you please post a link or the actual skin material and light setup?

You know what? Every other post in this forum is an old man or a demon :stuck_out_tongue:
I’d like to see someone model an old demon, or a demonic elder, or something along those lines

Other than that, fine modeling mate… keep it up :+1:

This turned out really well Bimm, great work bro.

Good looking head.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

alexleia, thanks, I’m honored

shandaman, thank pride and Jantim ofcourse

Odhinn, nice to hear from you man, thanks

I worked on the head some more. It’s always a surprise to me how my pet projects turn out. I have no clou as to where to go when I’m in the proces making something… This time it turned out to be a wizard with his little familiar.

90% Zbrush, with some afterwork using Photoshop.

anyway, thanks for stopping by,

Bimm

Edit: changed it somewhat…

Reminds me of “Dali” when you used to pose for press pictures at his house. I’m dating myself here, you are probably too young to remember that but,…it’s the kind of calm yet crazed look he used to have. He would be standing there with a canvas painted with black ants and naked women all around him in this kind of outfit. I think this is great Bimm. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Looking real good without the outline…came together great!

now that you mention it Odhinn, I can see what you mean, he does have that look about him somewhat, a bit of that same arrogance and self- pride that Dali showed so much… Although Dali is somewhat before my time…I wouldn’t call 30 still young  unfortunately…great that you like it

Pride. I agree with you, without the outline it looks better. But I have still some things to learn…fortunately

Bimm:
How I wish I was thirty, lol…you have such a head start on me learning all this CG stuff. My oldest just started highschool this year.
Forgot to compliment you on how you blended the background with your character. Did you do that in Photoshop?
What was your workflow.

Reminds me of those old school mesmerist/hypnotists, you know, the ones with the Crystal balls and staring eyes?

I prefered the normal staring/piercing eyes, with the normal whites of the eyes. The black ones look unrealistic and flat/2D.

Very nice work overall. The 2 star rating is quite insulting  I’ll try and bump that up a bit, it’s much better than any two star work

Oh my god! how old you must be…lol

Yeah, the background was just a photo of a interior castle room which I added in Photoshop and blurred a bit.

As for the rest of the workflow… Its quite chaotic, has no clear thought out line I follow. How I generally work is, I add something and see if I like it, if not I throw it away and try something new…and save every move, so if I go in a totally wrong direction I can go back to any step and change it. Let me check…I have about 7 gig of discarded pieces now for this picture alone.
It’s the most uneconomical way to work I guess. But that doesn’t matter, it’s just a hobby.

Angelstein, thanks for boosting me.
Your right about the eyes, I had a hell of a time trying to get him some normal eyes…and I failed, so I took the easy way. I still plan on changing them, along with the gold spiked scales on the head of the familiar, which look terrible.

Have a nice day,

Bimm

…and an update before I go to bed.

changed the eyes, blended the character better with the background and added some minute definition to the face.

see you,
Bimm

Very cool character. I didn’t see that coming at all when I checked out the earlier version of the old man head. This guy is so alive that he’s got history. There’s a real story behind this character, and it’s fun to imagine what that story might be.
