Smooth Not Working With Spotlight On

Hi there,
If I have Spotlight enabled, meaning that there is an 2D reference image displayed in ZBrush via Spotlight (Shift+Z), the Smooth brush no longer works when pressing Shift while sculpting. I have to press Shift+Z again to get out of Spotlight in order to get the Smooth functionality going again.

I’ve been able to reproduce this every time.

I’m a registered user of ZBrush 4R4 P2 working on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine.

Edit:

I find this is actually happening with most brushes.

Explicit steps to reproduce:

  1. Open ZBrush
  2. Load Tool (any will do)
  3. Test Smooth operation (should work here)
  4. Import an image via Texture menu
  5. Click an image and add it to Spotlight (Spotlight should now be enabled and image appears on screen)
  6. Test Smooth operation again (doesn’t work for me here)
  7. Press Shift+Z to close down Spotlight
  8. Test Smooth operation again (works again for me)

Thanks,

Alec

If your not using Spotlight for polypainting and just reference then you can turn off ‘Spotlight Projection’ in ‘Brush > Samples’ and that will give you the Smooth functionality while still having the image visible. Turning ‘Spotlight Projection’ off is global and will stay off for all brushes.

Great! That fixed it. Thanks for the prompt and accurate reply!

No problem Alec! :+1:small_orange_diamond:)
