Smooth brush without Shift Command?

Hello everyone,
Recently I installed Zbrush to a tablet of mine, however I soon discovered I cannot use Shift+pen dragging for Smoothing.
Nor can I use any buttons for that matter as the tablet doesn’t have buttons on the face to use such combinations.
Meaning I cannot Smooth, I cannot Mask off areas, cannot isolate locations, and so on.

I pulled up the digital keyboard and docked it, it covers a good portion of the screen and unfortunately holding down shift or ctrl while dragging around doesn’t seem to work.

So the real question:
Is there a way to setup Smooth to a primary brush? Like how you can select Clay Buildup and use that tool, without having to hold down the Shift Key?
As well as the Masking ability, without holding Ctrl? …or Alt…never remember until I’m using the program.

I ended up trying out Sculptris, which is much more tablet friendly, but I’d like to use my copy of Zbrush instead.

Any ideas would be helpful, thanks!

You’ll actually want to install a small plug in (the name escapes me at the moment) Anyway, it will put a small dock on your window that you can move around, it basically brings up only shift, ctrl, alt…you can customize it as you like as well I believe.

Anyway, if you want some videos of people using the new wacom tablets or the surface pro you’ll see their docks and they usually have a link in the video as well.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for telling me this. I had no idea where to look.

I’m still searching for it, is it anything like this?

Can’t you map the button on the pen to do it?

is the one I am thinking of…but you can search for art docks

here is a link to a thread on that plugin.

i had the same exact idea for a zscript. had no idea it already existed as a general plugin.

thanks beta_channel

Yeah, thanks for that.
I ended up trying it out last night, but it didn’t seem to work.
Later I was reading from other comments they couldn’t get it to work with Windows 8. Which is what I’m using, very disappointing.

well that sucks. But you should be able to find something similar that will work for windows 8, you might need some strong google fu though.

Weird, but then I’m reading people are running it on their Surface Pros with Windows 8.
Maybe my little Asus Vivo Note just can’t handle it. Seems to run, but not run the correct way intended. I’ll have to dig into this pretty hard.

I’m not very good at scripting/coding to get this working. Might be beyond me and my time.

At this point I think encore came up with a better solution.

I tried his app for the QToolbar and it works pretty well. I’d like to try and scale it down though to just the hotkeys.
