Smile

Hey everyone!

This is my first post here..I used myself as reference for this work. I worked four months on this project, it is my first 3d portrait. For base the model i used Maya, and the details i made in ZBrush. Hair, eyebrow and beard in maya hair. Lighting and rendering with Mental Ray in Maya. Composition in Photoshop. I have a lot to learn, and this is an awesome place.

Thanks

Wow DUDe!!
Great model and awesome render !! you realy nailed that skin look!

One thing I’d recommend – and it’s a common mistake, so don’t feel bad! – is to use an actual image of some sort for the reflection map in the eyes. The eyes are the hardest thing to pull off because it’s what people always cue into when they’re looking at a person. Windows to the soul and all that jazz. So when the reflection is just a generic map, people are quick to notice that something’s not right. They may not be able to say just what it is, but they do pick up on it.

Check out this thread for an example: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?174372-Realistic-USA-Ranger-Portrait. There is a bright reflection from a window or something but there’s also a lot more there and it makes the eyes come alive.

Regardless, this is a great first work to share at ZBC. We’ll definitely be looking forward to seeing more! Be sure to share more info about your ZBrush techniques, too – people here love that. Wonder why? ;)

Excellent … a really great first post!

Cheers, David

i liked the way you present it. good job

@aurick wow man, your comment is superb. wish you had time to visit my sketchbook thread and post that kinda superb comment :wink:

Amazing piece… My only critique would be the wrinkles around the corner of the eyes look a little heavy.
hair and expression are really good

more please

Excellent work.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and criticism
Thanks for the recommendation aurick and BlackMath about the eye

Base model modeled in Maya with references and imported in zbrush.

The skin was very hard hit

This being my first 3D more realistic that I could do today, tried to explore, search and find the best way that I adapt.
Everything is a set of a learning experience.

Aurick gives sage advice!

That is some awesome work dude. You got the whole deal nailed.

Did you render it in MR in maya using the SSS skin shader?

Fantastic first post! You did an amazing job, I look forward to see more from you!

Hi Vitor, hope u dont mind if i found a picture on ur blog, i like ur texturing ,rendering skills in mentalray but is not those skills i doubt u have.To be honest at first glance the image looks great but after i saw ur sculpt i felt my eyes were cheated. Some forms are ok but i think the pore detail are bad and the volume of the flesh surrounding the teeth is also bad.I miss realistic forms and volumes, flesh feel in ur model.
I feel like its an quick push and pull to lock good in Ur render camera and if u make an turntable render it falls into pieces and cant hold anymore on itself as an great piece.Thats me ,i dont like to see this in an otherwise great render.
