Smart ReSym Question

Can Anyone help me (I have tried the help posts, but no one is responding), I am having a strange issue when I try to Smart Resym my tool. I have been on Youtube and everyone makes it seem so easy. Heck, I even tried the tips on Set Pivot Point, Unify etc. I have attempted different axis X.Y. and Z. Still nothing. Can someone please help. What am I doing wrong. My screen shots are big enough to view my UI. Am I missing a setting somewhere? Please see all the links below that I am talking about and the images of my problem:

  1. And when I only hit Resym, I get this issue.

They make it look so easy in the videos. Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on? I open ZBrush (default, I am no expert to be changing anything in the preferences or UI), I just simply open it, load my tool, mask and hit Smart Resym just like the folks in the videos.

When I do the polyframe mode, this is what it looks like:

And I tried a fix suggested by Extra Dimensional Here:

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=84280&page=3

Where he writes about using MESHALL to generate a “cleaner” mesh.

Below is MY result doing so:

And yes, once I use the Mesh all, it still gives me the “tearing” effect. Again, this is simply a Tool generated using Shadowbox. I did test to see if it was my machine by selecting the 3Dsphere and making it a polymesh, then just doodled on one side of the sphere and did the Smart Remesh and it worked FINE. So, I know it is something with my NEW CAR TOOL. What am I not catching?? Anyone?? I would really like to use the Smart Remesh process as I know it will be the quickest way (at least I think it is) to ‘mirror’ one side of a vehicle to the other side (as vehicles of this type are generaly symetrical). In the mean time I will continue on just doing the vehicle with symetry on. Thanks to anyone that can shed some light.

@Dragon: I have had similar problems, and have been able to get around them. When this happens to me it is usually because the model is offset to one side or the other, which confuses the smart ReSym function.

to fix this go into the ‘Transform’ menu. In this menu there should be a button labeled ‘S.Pivot’ clicking this button will Center the object. After doing this, try using Smart ReSym again. It should work.

If it doesn’t work try going down to your lowest Subdivision level and using smart Resym. Then, go back up through the SD levels, using the Smart Resym function on each level. I know this seems tedious but sometimes it’s necessary.

If your object does not have lower SD levels, then try the mirror and weld function in the ‘Geometry’ panel inside the ‘tool’ menu (after first pressing the ‘S.Pivot’ button.

I hope this helps.

Smart ReSym does work best with a smaller number of points. So if you use it at the lowest subdivision level and then step up one level at a time – repeating Smart ReSym at each level – you’ll get cleaner results than a single Smart ReSym at the highest level.

twf152, your option of using MIRROR AND WELD worked just great. Actualy, I think it works better than Smart Resym (it does not take as long to copy things over). Now, I have a perfectly symetrical vehicle. AWSOME. You have no idea how long I have been working on a fix for my issue. I don’t care that Smart Resym did not work (THIS time) for me, I was simply looking for a way to copy one side to the other (guess I should have been more clear about this). Thanks a million twf152, your a life saver. Now I can continue ‘creating’.

Aurick, your always such a help up here on the forums. While I was looking for a fix to my issue, I saw your name all over the place and, here you are as well. For some reason, I thought I WAS at the lowest subdiv, but, after reopening my shadowbox model and doing the Smart Resym, it seemed to be doing it ‘somewhat’ fine (still getting little issues, but, nothing like I have been getting, nothing a little bit smoothing won’t clean up). Anywho, before I do this again, next time, I am going to do the Smart Resym right away (now that I think about it, I am going to test to see if upping the rez for Shadowbox may help??) And yes, all I was looking for was a way to copy one side to the other. And if there is more than one way to do so, well, I will just take whichever method WILL work for ‘ME’. I was a computer tech for many years (Quark, AOL, GE internet etc), and, folks were not looking for a fix to a specific issue (some were, but the majority were not), they just wanted to get the work done, no matter what path they had to take. Computers and software is not perfect. So if there is another way to do something and gets the job done anyway, that’s all most of us are looking for. So, again, sorry ‘I’ was not clearer… my bat (I should know better right? ). Well, as you can see, I did the mirror and weld and that worked great.

Again, many, many, many thanks to both you and twf152 for stepping up to the plate. I really appreciate it.

Best, dragon.
