i smart resym’d div 1 2 then on 3 this happened.
do i need a certain button pushed while i do this, or a certain axis or something?

2nd question, sorry, can i smart resym only certain areas? useing masking.

ok, thanks to brainstorming with a friend and reading related topics, we came up with the solution to this occurance. hope this helps anyone else that comes across this problem. :o

as in my previous post, my mesh shot up in the air.
the reason is the axis of the resym is being projected toward a axis direction, in that case X was upwards.
so i noticed a X Y Z toggleable buttons on the resym’s right side of the button.

I can’t remember exactly what I did but. It had something to do with clicking the local button on the right and the s.pivot. then smartresym. Let me know if this helps. I know for sure those were the buttons I pushed but I don’t know what order.

This JUST bit me too. Yep, click the button to set the center point to the center of the mesh, and then resymmetrize, it works great.
