ZBrushCentral

slow undo

Hi folks,
I just upgraded to a new computer:

-Core I7 920 @3,6GHz
-MSI GTX 260 (latest drivers) OC Edition
-ASUS P6T
-12GB 1600MHz RAM
-Vista Ultimate x64

But somehow at 3 Million Polygons and up, the undo function does get quite slow and zBrush says reading virtual memory, however there is still plenty of free RAM left.

Thx in advance for help,
regards,
Michael

What are your setting in the Preferences>Mem menu? If you’ve left them at the default, then ZBrush is only using 256 MB of RAM. With your system, you should set Compact Mem to the maximum of 4096 which will allow ZBrush to use 4 GB of RAM.

I recommend leaving the other settings alone except for the MaxPolysPerMesh slider which can go as high as about 20 (but would be better to leave around 12).

that´s what I had already, however I seem to have found the point:

on standard settings the multithreaded steps were set to 6, than I raised it to 8 (as I have 8 virtual cores) then it got better. After that I tried 16 and now everything works smoother.
Yet not that perfect, as it exceeds the 4gb memory maximum while doing some work.
Why can´t zBrush go above 4gb of RAM?

It’s a native 32bit app.

doh,
well then thanks guys.
