Slicing edges into a UV'd mesh

I want to use the slice tools to cut some extra edges into a mesh, but it already has UVs and external textures using them, etc., and when I enable freeze subdivision levels, the UVs get deleted.

I tried duplicating the mesh, deleting down to the bottom subdiv, making changes, then using Project All to reproject the subdivisions, but that loses some detail in the mesh, even if I don’t change the mesh at all. I think it’s reconstructing the mesh’s shape, but not the exact vertex positions, and ending up with different texturing results. (Freeze Subdivision Levels doesn’t seem to have this problem and lands back exactly where it started.)

I’m just adding edges, which should simply be able to interpolate UVs for new vertices, so I’m sure there’s a simple way to do this…

Hmm. If I GoZ to Maya, do the edits there and then come back, ZB offers to reproject subdivs and it works fine, without losing UVs or any detail in places I didn’t change. Exporting the level 1 subdiv to Maya and then reprojecting from it seems like exactly the same thing as freeze subdivs, so it feels like freeze subdivs losing UVs is just a bug.

Not a fantastic workaround, but I guess it’s good enough for the simple edits I need.
