Sketchbook Thread: mattBarker

Hi all, this is first post here,I started using zbrush way back at v2, i’ve never had the guts to post though :). I am a Australian 3d artist, I last worked for Team Bondi/Rockstar Games for 3 years on the ps3/xbox game La Noire, as environment artist/cinematics monkey, but have always dabbled in characters at home. Currently I am working for the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, teaching gametech, modelling/animation etc.

Here is my latest project created in zBrush for critique. It is a Mark Ryden inspired character… i plan to add hair with maya soon.

Zbrush bpr render.

test maya/mental ray render using advanced SSS shader setup

Once hair is added, i want to put her in a scene recreating a mark ryden painting, facial rigging the character blinking, breathing, and generally creeping people out

Any feedback is welcome… i’m working on blendshapes at the moment. Will post updates. here is a turnaround rendered from Zbrush http://youtu.be/-5J7vHY8uk8?hd=1 and the attached image is after GoZing to maya/mental ray and a bunch of shader setup and rendering work.mr3_low.jpg

Nice job!

mattbpvz_low.jpg2 hour sculpt challenge. Plants vs Zombies 3d rendition.

I like the first two faces. They’ve got an interesting style.

More complete version of an earlier Zbrush project, this is after work in Maya and Nuke.

This is a creature I made for a 48hour Game jam using a Zbrush to Unity workflow. I then continued the project for a high poly version using Zbrush, 3DCoat, Maya/Mental Ray and Nuke.
Turnaround can be found on my youtube channel mattbonline.
Any critique welcome.

I’m really digging the style and the subtle color palette of the ryden image. The lips being partially opened adds some mystery to the image as well. Any chance it will be a full bodied character - it has a lot of potential. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot, yeah I am working on backgrounds now and body, hoping i can find something that works.
Cheers again
