doing a quick sketch in between vids, see now I’m awake haha. one of the first times I started with different references. I usually don’t use reference as I feel it restrains creativity, I don’t know If I’ll continue to do so, but this was a fun little diversion. and no. This was not supposed to be Ron Pearlman. This was my take on Hell boy. I combined ron and Jeremy Roberts’ take on him.

my set up uses different shaders, more specifically im piping in the mental ray fast skin shader into the Mia material via the “Other color” slot found under advanced.

Just personal preference the red seems a little strong to me. I love the face.

Awsome sculpt, but don’t destroy it with the ‘twig’ legs. Beside buddy, haven’t we all seen enough of this style legs? See if you can come up with something original besides these legs or human one’s. I dare ya, I dare ya-

Woo, almost cried, but I’m happy now with how its going, and only 3 o’clock in the morning, not bad haha.
I really hope none of you were up to see that… I took a bunch of images off the post and just left them as attachments. things got a little crazy there…but I’m good now.

Thanks santis I’m still looking at those legs though. No ones drawn a naked hellboy Haha. I want to use reference for the legs. Seeing as this project is my test with reference. I did the legs you see out of memory and a sketch of a cartoon hellboy. Hellboy has tiny legs, almost comedically so. Sometimes he also has goat legs. and sometimes he also has people legs. It sucks that there isn’t just one hellboy. I mean a costume change is one thing, but we are talking totally different anatomys. Oy…
i think im going back to humanistic proportions, I adjusted the thigh, it looks good I think, but I need to refine the low leg to match. and yes I know he wears pants or shorts, but this is for me.
His thigh seems a bit short. Other than that it looks good! I like it
yea I’m still trying to decide if I should stick with slightly shorter legs, you know the comic and comedically small legs for such a large frame. I don’t want to go ron pearlman though. Like I enjoyed his character, and it obviously inspired the face, but I want this hellboy to exist outside to the comic and the movie. I’ll try out longer thighs and see how that looks.
