Sketchbook - Matt Dunn

Hi Everyone,

Zbrush beginner here. I’ve been using Blender for a few years but I thought I would bite the bullet and see what Zbrush can do. So far I am impressed with it as a tool. Now it’s just a matter of getting good at it… that’s easy right?

Here is my first project outside of tutorial stuff. I based it on a character from the cartoon Rick and Morty.

Lemme know what you think.

Hey,

Working on a Yoda sculpt. A little lumpy and I really need to find some good tutorials on sculpting cloth.

Welcome to ZBC! Looks like a good start to your sketchbook.

Working on posing a character for the first time.

I had a lot of difficulty trying to pose it from a sculpted t-pose. I got tons of distortion in the shoulders that seemed like way to much work to fix. Instead I broke apart the limbs and then dynameshed them into the torso. Is that a standard workflow or do most people pose the finished model from a t-pose?

Also, is there some kind of magic trick for using CurveStrapSnap? I did the piping on the shirt with it and I had a ton of trouble getting a nice smooth curve that didn’t twist along its axis.

Comments are appreciated.

Still learning, slow going.

I decided to try and mimic the Disney Infinity style with this sculpt of Matt the Radar Technician – aka Kylo Ren.
This is from an SNL skit that I thought was pretty funny. Here’s a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s74breoNAKc

Things that I learned this time around:

  1. Don’t rush things.
  2. Hands suck.
  3. Footwear is annoying - got the boots from turbosquid.
  4. Posing might be the most frustrating.

Does anyone have a good tutorial about posing a character? I get that the topology should be good for posing but I feel like I am still missing something.

Work in Progress - Mermaid

Time to start some detailing. Any comments/crits are appreciated.

Based off a drawing I found on the interwebz.

Slightly different.

I liked the artwork for this Die Antwoord single so I did a sculpt. I had to do the words in Blender, no idea how to do that in Zbrush.

Hi, are you the one who created this 3d model? and if so are you willing to sell a copy to me?

Hey, thanks for your interest. You can grab it on Thingiverse, you just can’t use it commercially. Thx.
