Skeletor and Zombies in Comicbook Style

Hey all! Did these a while back for the comic book contest. Was really trying to take the contest literally. Wanted to make my entry look 2D. Never found the time to get my entry done though:(

YES…that’s right all these images are all 100% 3D and I used zbrush to do 99% of it. I ONLY used photoshop for a few overlays and overall color adjustments. I used slash for crosshatching:) all poly paint…

Neat effect huh? Been trying to find some other zbrush artists who have pushed zbrush this 2D but have been at a loss to find them. It is such a fun technique…Try it out! Just mess with your materials…you really have to tweak your matcap and cavities hardcore to get it.

It is a blast. Am including the 3D model for skeletor to prove it is 3D.

here are a few more tests I did using the technique. Nothing serious…just doodles.

That’s a great effect you’ve achieved. If you ever got around to posting a tutorial I’d definitely check it out.

i only agree. this looks awesome!
really painted!!! i think thats the best comic-drawn style out of zbrush.

maybe you could discribe, how to achieve it. i love it. nice done! :+1:

I agree! If you were to provide a tutorial – or at the very least more info regarding your settings – you would have the community practically kissing your feet. Other people have tried for the toon look before with varied success. You’ve nailed it. Really great stuff!

ill kiss your feet till they hurt!
awesome result

Nice Style!

I have to concur with the others. I don’t regularly post “gushing” replies, but this is a very appealing graphic style you’ve accomplished here. I’d be interested to see your walk through of how it was done, if you cared to post it.

( Chanting ) we want to know…we want to know…we want to know…

Very cool cell/toon material you’ve developed. Kudos

Yah…the 2D aspect of zbrush to my knowledge has never been pushed this far.

It really just comes down to a different way of thinking about the sculpting. Block out your base…no details…then put toon shader on…once it is on…start using slash brush as a crosshatching tool. Study comic book crosshatching. Then of course…knowing how to work in the 2D aspect of zbrush as well. Working in zdepth etc. That is how I can layer so much stuff on in some of the pics.

I love doing it. It is so fun to work in real time comic book color without even rendering. I will totally post a tutorial for you guys. Will try to also record voice over it to try and tell you all the little details to look out for.

Hopefully have it up in a few days:)

very cool, looking forward to the tut

realy nice work cant wait for the tutorial. thx

Nice work and technique! Like others, I can’t wait to see how you did this. It’s the kind of illustrative style I’ve wanted to get out of ZB for ages. Now, just trying to muck around with the various matcaps and other materials but missing the mark by this (.) much

realy nice work cant wait for the tutorial. thx

Aye, aye! Superb style :+1:

realy nice work cant wait for the tutorial. thx
