Sizing images for gallery submission?

Can anyone tell me how to properly prepare one of my images for submission to user gallery. How do I convert image to jpg file format? How do i keep a file size under 200Kb and in doing this are we really limited to picture complexity and number or complex componets? are their any galleries that accept larger image files? am I missing something? How do I convert an image to a thumbnail? thank you!

Well, I export BMP’s but I assume it works the same for PSP’s…
I usually work at double the default document size, and export that size as a render…That works out to about a 17 X 13 image size…I reduce that to about 12 X 8…(These numbers are approximate, I think it actually is 17 X 12.83 or something…) Anyway, when I convert the 12 X 8 BMP to a JPEG, it’s usually under 200 KB, and if not I take the size down a little at a time until it is…
To convert the image to a JPEG, any graphics program shoud do…
To convert to a thumbnail you will need a graphics program to load your image into, and then you would either reduce your entire image to a thumbnail or select a part of it, but for the user gallery at Z-Central, you won’t need to produce the thumbnail…they will post the thumbnail for you!

Certain image editing programs have a feature to let you interactively reduce the quality of your JPG in order to get its file size down. Photoshop has the “Save for Web” feature to do this. Fireworks (which has a free 30 day demo) also has such a feature.

200K is the standard for most gallery sites. The largest that I know of off hand is 3DCommune with 300K. However, they have a limit on the maximum size of the thumbnail, which is set at 15K.

I think (though I could be wrong) that Renderosity’s gallery allows 500 kilobytes…

Many thanks for prompt response to all! Now hopefully I can post some work for critique.

Totally noobish quesiton but how do you upload images to your gallery alltogether? Beats me :frowning:

Hey Drone. My understanding is that all images posted end up on the bottom row and then get shuffled along until they are gone. Top row gallery is for specially chosen images (by admin?). Of course, I’ve never had anything in the top row…

zero

Hi Drone
Just press the bouton “Upload Image” and follow the instructions
So you will obtain your image in the second choice up menu, during the time that another Zbrusher’s image come and push you
And in the perpetual “Orange gallery” for 13* 9 = 117 sliding images
And after you have only 30 day for Edit your post !
