why is it sometimes u get fewer option when dividing and object

Your first example is a Poly Mesh. Your second example is a 3D Primitive also known as a parametric surface. Each has their own reason for existing but thats your answer for ya.

Also, take a look at the last of your pictures. It has a ‘make polymesh’ button. When you hit that, it creates…well… a polymesh. If you select that created polymesh you can subdivide etc. etc. etc.
