Simple mesh extraction (answered)

I was doing a mesh extraction on a model head like if you were doing a headband or whatever by masking then inverting the mask.It seems to take forever and I used the default thickness.I even did a simple sphere and it would just get stuck on “smoothing mesh borders”.I waited 10 minutes so I know there is something wrong while not completing the mesh,so I had to shut the program down.

It works fine for me, so I think it has nothing to do with Zbrush itself.
What are your system specs and the polycount of the model?
Also, have you changed the Mem settings in the Preference palette?

The polycount was only 1.5 mil.My mem is set 21.1 in pref.I have a amd 64 athlon with 8 ram.

Lower the sub d level to about 2 then do the extract. See if that makes a difference. Then you can sub d the extract if you have to.

1.-As Moni-Poroni say nothing to do with ZB itself
2.-You have a Great Machine:nothing to do with your F-16!
3.-Look if you have other subtools with masks…or how is the active subtool
4.-I made a test and… no problem

It is best to create mesh extractions at lower subdivision levels. This gives the cleanest topology and is quickest. If you need high res detail you can then subdivide and project the detail afterwards.

Extract is quite memory intensive. If you must extract at a high level you may find that restarting ZBrush first is a good idea. This will ensure that the undo cache is clear, there aren’t extra ztools taking up memory and so on.
