I have imported and edited a file from max, I have opened and edited it with no problems. Last thing I did was colourise and texture the model. I have saved the file as a document and tool, however whenever I open the tool none of the colours are there and whenever i open the document I am unable to edit anything. Any ideas how to fix this and allow me to edit it with colour and then export it to max again.

You use the Tool palette to load and save models. The Document palette is used for pictures.
As for the rest, the first, most important thing to ask is which version of ZBrush you’re using. Depending on the version there are some big differences in the answer.
I’m using v3.1 I have never realy used this program much before.
I think that all my posts are being checked before they are displayed, but i have sorted my main problem. I did all of the texture and colour in Mat cap white but the model was comming in in mat cap red, simply changing it back into mat cap white fixed my main problem. Thank you for the advice.
