Simple landscape.

Hi,
I’m experimenting with ZBrush to Lightwave and have created a simple landscape out of an ordinary plane of flat polys and used a displacement map (GuvTiles).

I would like to learn more about “landscaping” and was wondering if anyone could point out some threads or websites where I can learn more about landscaping.

I guess for the one I created, my texture map size is not big enough, though I’m pleased that I did manage the displacement and the texturing at all.

Thanks.

I cut my 3D teeth on a program called Bryce (at version 5.5 now), about 6 years ago - I have since moved through 3DS Max, to Maya, to zBrush, and there is, in my humble opinion, nothing that compares to Bryce for its ease of use and the variety/complexity of terrains it can create. You can export terrains easily too.

I have Bryce 5.5, Vue 5 Infinite, and WorldBuilder 3. They all have certain strengths and weaknesses. IMHO, Bryce is simpler and faster, but Vue allows for even more explicit control and design, especially in the mass placement of objects. Frankly, Worldbuilder is an overly complex pain in the @ss. I have used each at one time or another to make backgrounds and environments for 3ds Max projects.

hi Digits updated his Terrain widgeta little while ago that you may find useful…or at the very least alot of fun to play with.

Thanks for the comments and the links :+1: !

I had been searching through the forums already, but it’s much faster when you’ve got a place to start.

Take a look at the incredible Terragen app (free for non comercial use I think).
