Simple Col>Txr Problem

Hi guys,

this is my first post here and i have a question. i have done a search within these forums before posting but i could not find an answer.

very simply, my Col>Txr and my Uv>Txr (and probably some more Txr things) are buggered.

I created a polymesh3D from a sphere within ZBrush. on the lowest level of subdivision i colorized it in the Tool>Texture palette and created a new blank texture (Image #1)

now, if i try Col>Txr i get a horrible mess (regardless of whether I have painted on the polymesh or not) image #2 and

if I GUVTiles correctly and then Uv>Txr then i get a different kind of horrible mess.

i swear i have been diligent and am not doing anything wrong.

am i doing anything wrong?

thanks in advance,

Cleveland

When you apllying the texture what color is there selected in the pallete ?

If it is black it will come blackish.

Just check that.

thanks wickedsunny, but i think the problem is more profound. doesn’t matter what color is in the texture, whether texture is on or off, whether it’s a native model with UVs at creation or whether I unwrap it in ZBrush or whether its an imported mesh already unwrapped elsewhere, I always get a black texture with a few (1~10?) colored lines. like below.

i have emailed pixologic and they do appear to be searching for an answer for me, but if anyone else has any ideas i would love to try them.

thanks again wickedsunny

was this happening from the very start the time you installed zbrush ? or it is happening now ?

It is quite possible some file in zbrush might have got corrupted.

Have you tried re-installing ?

In last one year I havent seen any such problems here, very unique problem. There are textures with seams but not these thin lines?

When you wrapping the tetxure on the mesh can you take a screenshot of the screen ?

I want to see the zbrush palletes and tools that time.

See that color in the color platte is not black.

Try this … load your model > create a blank texture > paint on your model > hit Fix Seams (in the Tool > Texture palette). I don’t think I’ve ever used the UV > Texture command before … and judging by the description of the tool (mouse over the button and hit Ctrl to see it) I don’t think I ever will. Colour > Texture, I believe, is used when you don’t have a blank texture already loaded … not necessary if you use the workflow mentioned at the start of my message.

Let us know what happens. Oh, and weirdness in textures can often be resolved just by hitting Fix Seams too.

@wckedSunny, there’s no point showing an unwrap. it happens all the time with every 3dPolyMEsh including those generated within ZBRUSH which comes with nice UV’s. its not the UV’s as the 2nd and 3rd picture below show clearly there’s UV Maps on there. its something to do with assigning texture as its both col>txr and UV.txr. ALSO maybe related is the fact that when i am in edit mode draw and have anything other than pure white in my alpha, ALL the black texture on my model turns transparent. i do not have transparent turned on in the texture palette, obviously. 1st image is relevant palettes/tools when i convert to texture…

@Moochie, thanks. i tried it before, tried it again after your suggestion and tried it once more. i got the 2nd attached image…

thanks for trying to help, but i suspect its a OSX 10.4 problem and my Mac. as such i’m not likely to get an answer from pixologic either…
