Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Lemo
i have been testing silo 2 all morning and i most say that IS FANTASTIC, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!
And I can’t find my old serial GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Do you delete old emails? First place I look.
It will be in an email from support-at-nevercenter.com.
Unfortunately, I dont have much time for much Beta testing, especially when its interface doesnt seem quite finished yet, making it a little difficult to discern all the changes quickly.
However, after spending the morning playing with it, specifically the displacement painting tools, I’ll say this: while it doesnt seem at this time to be able to handle Zbrush levels of mesh resolution and detail, the integration of it with all the other poly editing tools you can use at the same time youre displacement painting, is worth quite a bit. Being able to interactively edit and tweak the poly, edge, and vertex geometry simultaneously with the paint functions may in fact be priceless.
Also, at this time it doesnt work nearly as well with a Tablet, the way ZB does, and still seems mouse-centric…which is a deal breaker for me.
Pixologogic, I love ya, but its time to stop giving away major updates, and increase the size of the development team.
haven’t looked yet but can’t ya get from 1.4 help menu? I know I found it in an odd place once but can’t remember where now.
got write a prog to keep track of all that stuff one of these days…arghhhhh
thanks for the heads up Lemmo!
Anyone care to show us some of their Silo 2 work please? I tried the learning version of Silo a little while back. Not as much fun as Zbrush, but very impressive app I thought. Silo 2 looks fantastic!

Some will probably start appearing on the silo message boards soon. Probably a better place to look than here.
Found the old reg email in a backup set… Poor Mac was working all afternoon to decompress and scan files hahaha.
But now… WOOOOOOAAAAAAAA what a cool update. NOW it’s a tool. Best 100 Bucks spend. Ever!

PS: Yes, look at the www.nevercenter.com site to see samples. Check out the forum.
indeed after just 1 day of silo beta, there are already many great pictures from users
Here is a 30 minute try from mine , i suggest you have a look on their site

Interface looks finished to me what are you missing ?
well not much , some features are disableed in this beta (normal and displacement map export, but we can use xNormal until then - also custom buttons and the sdk) . Those guys are really incredible, giving attention in every single detail… also after one day of public beta, i am convinced this way of working will speed up and enhance the developement.
I think this mixed modeler / sculptor will soon become a must have complementing zbrush really well…
Well, there is no “default” interface or button layout yet, unless its going to be a total departure from 1.x silo. Everything is drop down menus and hotkeys (like wings). The button editor also seems to be disabled right now, so I cant make my own yet.
But you can open up any of the availiable option menus, and drag them to wherever youd like on the screen, which is nice.
Youll get yelled at if you suggest this over on the Nevercenter boards, but its not really a match for ZBs high frequency detail sculpting…but the ability to be able to mix in Silos great poly editing and manipulating tools, loop modelling, face extrusion ect., side by side with the sculpting and disp painting, is really, really powerful.
I mean assuming they iron out the symetry tools (theyve got some beta quirkiness right now) , its definitely going to be a fantastic bang for the buck package, and definitely worth the upgrade. And just when I had been thinking XSI was going to win most of my Utility modelling.
Yes, it’s a great addition to Zbrush as it is right now. Silo can nicely help to bring the model up to par in the lower sub levels which are usually involving more poly modeling than I am comfortable in ZBrush. Then in the higher levels SIlo’s a dog and ZBrush starts to play it’s power. Looks like a winner combo to me.
Lemo
I just downloaded and fired it up for the first time, so no impressions yet (and I’ll save that for the nc forums
)
A couple of other things worth noting…
Standard numerical input for everything.
Also support for uv mapping, and the program should respect vertex ordering now. Loading and saving is way faster now too.
I’m really REALLY impressed. So impressed it scares me. Still love zbrush though I do wish for two things. The first is something I have wanted since forever and thats some damn poly modeling tools in ZBrush (yeah the ones Silo has). One thing I would now love would be to have the ability to adjust brush size and strength like Silo now does. MMB drag up and down for brush strength and drag left to right for size. An ALT MMB left to right for focal shift would be kick too.
Just venting though. Thanks.

Hey Mahlikus,
I would use zbrush if i could afford a license, just for texturing in projection master… (so my top request for zbrush would be…have a look at bodypaint layers, masks, and channels).
The great workflow would be :
- model, sculpt (and eventually retopologize) and unwrap in silo2
-
do your rigging in your animation package and reimport poses in silo2 to sculpt on assymetric poses (still symetric topology)
- export displacement map + base mesh from silo2 and reconstruct the 2 millions poly mesh in zbrush
-
do all your projection master texturing, export texture channels (color, spec, bump-as a latest displacement generation-, etc…)
- render in your animation package
It’s just so complementary !!!
best regards
I downloaded the demo version (1.4) and watched the video tuts. Most tools resemble C4D modeling quite a bit. The topology tool would be something Iwould like to be added to C4D though.
