Hello Brett, great work. Much life in the expressions.
I hope this becomes also top-row.

Cheers

Really amazing work Brett… some of the best stuff I’ve seen. Everything looks very natural.
It’s my favorite entry from the contest and I don’t know why it’s not on the top row yet

I saw this a while on cg society and wanted to comment. This is a perfect example how the image references aren’t enough when making a portrait. You don’t ever have a real side photo or front for that matter, it’s always but for a milimeter at least to one side or the other, so you can’t ever grasp the pproportions and relations. I was all hiped up about image plane zpluging, and now I never use it. Instead, I get a LOT of reference, movies, photos ets., and observe them whil sculpting, not even the base mesh over a reference. Hope this helps, good work though overall ;):+1:

Very nice expressions! Love the feeling, kind of right inbetween realistic and exaggerated! How did you create the hair? Is it Maya hair?

The results are in  http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=773595&utm_medium=plugblock&utm_source=cgtalk.

Thanks everyone for the support and votes. Its really appreciated. It was a lot of fun taking part in the challenge. It was also my 1st one :D.

wizz: Thanks man. I hope to get back to finishing Shia with textures soon.

Intervain: Thank you Miss Dadela  I loved Meph too. I feel theres a lot of life in him. I don’t know why but I like his flirty emotion best. hahaha.

Ville: Haha. Thanks man

aesis412: Thank you!

euge: Hey man. thanks for the kind words. Yup. I’m hoping to add a texture and nice render for him.

manzarek123: Thank you so much!

stumpf: Hi Sir, Thank you for the kind words. Your creations always put a smile on my face. I really like the minotaur you did recently.

Ducard: Thanks man

undoz: Thanks Andrei. Your new girl is friggin hot man. hahaha.

tokio: Thank you! It was a real challenge to do them. Thinking about how muscle stretches over bone or wrinkles up. Was really fun to do.

Lord McGoat: HAhaha. You crazy man. Next up: anatomy challenge. I’m up for some ass kicking from you. haha. Young Bale is an awesome awesome entry man. Well done. It deserves more attention.

Tyrone M: Lol!

Disco Stu: Hahaha. Thanks buddy

cherub_rock: Thanks for the crits and comments. I agree with what you say. Its really tough to get the ref you need from any arb pics off the net. Though I still find the imageplane really useful. Its also my 1st time using it. I wanted to try a different method this time round. I ended up screen capping a lot from transformers. My biggest problem was relating an expression with an emotion. on a still image an expression can read many things. But in live footage or animation the emotion comes accross clearer.

Gaarder: hehe. Thanks man. The hair was created using shave and a haircut and rendered as hairprims in mental ray. Nothing fancy.

fantastic work indeed!

Congrats on the win Brett, this was in a class of it’s own.

congrats again - well Top Row already? give the man a medal

btw. Flirty because it makes him irresistable
