Here’s some more work today. Worked on the textures for the main back armor piece. Still have to do the chest parts.

Just a little update for the day. Did the front chest parts. Need to go back and make some adjustments on the diffuse (splotchy parts have a little too much contrast, thus looking…well, splotchy) & spec though. But it’s about 90% there. For now though, it’s off to family booze time. :smiley:

Little more prog. on this gal. Doing another run through the body trying to tidy some things up before moving on to more armor/clothing parts. Worked mostly on knees/arms/back/armpit-breast area. Tweaked the mats a slight bit on the chest armor (mostly trying to make sure the spec’s etc. jive correctly w/ the back part). Also started refining the face some.

Question - been flirting with ZB since version 2.0, but just now diving in full steam and never used materials. Are you painting materials with polypaint on your metal?

Still need to dive into the whole MatCap part of ZB.

Thanks man. About the polypainting…no. Would be nice if polypainting looked like that, but it’s got a ways to go to get there. Made the textures for that in p.s., but that shot is not in zb…it’s fully lit w/ spec maps & all that jazz.

Well, I decapitated her and got started on painting the head. Diff + spec, still only hand paint though, no projection yet.

looks cool, if i can make a suggestion, change the color of the cloth/leather to something other than blue.

Thanks Joe. It’s supposed to be black (worn) actually, but I take it what you’re getting at is a matter of having a little color contrast. I was thinking about a more traditional ‘brown’ leather as well. I’ll have a play around w/ it.

Well, tonight I got a little post on the Samurai. I’d done some subtle tweaks on the head a while back & retopo’d it. This evening I started a quick diffuse map for him.

So i’m kind of new at zbrush, i really love the stuff your doing with armor and attachments on your characters and stuff like that. I’ve got a few questions if u have a minute. How did u go about adding that armor onto that chick?

did u do a separate mesh in like… maya or something or did u just append some zsphere objects to her? also what brushes did u use on her tech suit?
i’m still just poking around with clay brush and havent yet found the brushes or technique to do that do techy stuff like that really well.

Thanks a lot, I’m glad you like it & really appreciate it. Re: the hard surface stuff, they usually start off as a polysphere. Sometimes if a parts general shape is going to be very elongated I’ll start w/ zsphere to avoid too much stretching on the polys. The brushes used include move/clay/std/pinch/smooth/polish/planar.

Anyway, someone asked about this a few months ago on another forum, & I did a quick video since I find that’s easier than trying to explain it in words. Hope you can find it useful.

Some more work on the Sammy. Trying to get him prepped for some Z4 messing about this weekend (hopefully get my email on time :D). Anyway, got the retopologized head back together w/ the other tools, & started setting up uv’s/normal maps for the other parts. Going to need to do some retop on a few of the armor bits as well, but not much.

I spent most of the day trying to get the sss shader in vray working to my satisfaction for the samurai. Not ready to show anything on it, although I did make a little progress. Anyway, after staring at render buckets all day I decided to take a break from the snooze and do some sculpting.

Well, as stated, I spent some time trying to get a decent look for the skin. There’s still some thing’s to clean up with it (in addition to finishing it out), as well as working the overall tones some more…it’s not quite where I want it yet.
