ShadowBox and Alphas?

I imported an alpha and reversed it under the alpha tools - when I try to to use it with the masking pen brush in shadowbox it reverts back to the unreversed version of the alpha. What am I doing wrong?
TIA

Whatever is white in your alpha will create the mask. If you invert it then the mask should be inverted too but make sure the correct alpha is selected when you hold Ctrl to start mask-painting.

Also, this method may be of interest:

Marcus that helped with the res - I did find out by trying this - (reverse alpha from alpha tools while holding ctrl down in the shadowbox) the reverse alpha from alpha tools does not activate when clicked upon when in the shadowbox ctrl mode of masking rect drag box. So is the way I found the correct way or should the reg reverse alpha activate when in the masking rect drag box when clicked upon?

The image shows a reg alpha which I reversed as stated above to get it to work in ShadowBox

The alpha when reversed in the reg way will not activate when I go to alphas in ShadowBox but when I use the ctrl and then reverse the alpha it works

Is that the correct way.

You need to hold Ctrl when drawing in ShadowBox - the mesh is created by drawing a mask on the sides. So your alpha also has to be selected while holding Ctrl so that it is used for the mask.

HTH,

Marcus when I create a reverse from my alpha and ctrl to use it it does not work

So I am trying to find out why the reverse alpha created before going to ctrl does not work - It does show up when in ctrl but does not active.

If the alphas have to be reversed while in ctrl OK I do this
Setup ShadowBox
load alpha
select the mask rect brush
ctrl > slect the alpha > go to alpha tools and reverse alpha > select the reverse alpha

But if the reverse alpha before going into ShadowBox ctrl mode should work it is not - it keeps taking me to the unreversed alpha.

So if reverse alpha has to be made while in ctrl mode I can not find it documented. Which means it may be a bug - but if the reverse alphas are to be made while in ctrl mode of ShadowBox then not.

Should either way work?

SpaceMan,

You don’t need to invert the alpha while holding Ctrl, just make sure that it is the selected alpha when you press Ctrl to paint a mask.

  1. With the alpha selected in the Alpha palette, invert it.
  2. With a model in Edit mode, hold Ctrl. Click on the large alpha thumbnail and select the inverted alpha.
  3. Paint the mask.
