shaders 1 ,2 ,3 4 not showing changes in view ?

Hi guys…from what I understand is that the quadshaders are for sure very helpful to create many different speculars and effects on the same model ( lips more glossy than skin etc…)
I have 2 questions…

can I somehow “paste” a material that I made inside “Shader 1” and keep it as main shader and change S2 s3 and S4 ?

question 2:

If i change specular and other settings in quadshader in the view there are NO changes…why ?

Shader Slots work in conjunction with the Shader BlendMode that is in the ‘Material>Mixer’ subpalette. Much like layer blend modes work in Photoshop. Each Shader Slot can have it’s own blend mode. Try the ‘Add’ blendmode and experiment with the others.
