Have recently purchased a new computer with 12 gbs ram (Pc).
Without trying to get into the zbrush book of world records, realistically
what should I set my preferences to.
Realize the question is slightly ambiguous depending on what
user is trying to do.
Approximate guidelines would help.
Thank you.
having 12 gigs of ram is mostly irrelevant, since zbrush will only ever use 4gb of that due to it being native x86 code (if you’re on a 64bit system, which i hope you are- having already purchased all that memory heheh).
Zbrush will actually detect how much memory you have and set the ‘realistic’ amount automatically. For example, I’ve got 8 gigs of ram and my MaxPolyPerMesh is set to 12, so I can safely get up to 12mil polygons on a single object before ZBrush won’t allow me to subdivide. You can actually overcrank this slider to something higher, although it’s not recommended- and the preference won’t save on exit due to a failsafe.
Have 64 and a built in soda machine.
If you adjust the slider for mem preferences how can you get ZBrush to set it automatically again ?
