Serious rendering problem in v 3.5

I have only just got round to installing my copy of ZBrush 3.5, and I have now found the following problems:

(1) I get an annoying ‘WinTab services not available’ message whenever I start up ZBrush.

(2) Whenever I use any of the brushes, the render has lots of broken squares superimposed all over it. This just makes v 3.5 completely unusable.

Version 3.1 used to work OK on my PC, but since I have had to restore to a new hard disk, I have been unable to get it re-activated - so I am completely without a working version of ZBrush.

It would be great if I could at least get v 3.1 working again.

Please could somebody help? Thanks.

My setup is as follows:

Armari workstation with Dual Intel Xeon 3.06 GHz processors.
4 Gb RAM
PNY/Nvidia Quadro FX 1100 graphics card with 128 Mb RAM
IWill DH800 motherboard.
Wacom Cintiq 18SX monitor/graphics tablet.
Windows XP Pro with latest updates applied.
Sun Java JVM with latest updates.
Latest Nvidia video drivers.

1) The WinTab error is caused by the fact that Windows does not have the WinTab service. That service is installed by your tablet drivers. Go to the manufacturer website for your tablet and install the most current drivers.

2) Which release of 3.5 are you using? It should be 3.5R3. You can tell by looking at the version number in the title bar.

3) Make sure you have an alpha selected.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have installed the latest Wacom tablet drivers, so I don’t know why I’m still getting the WinTab error message.

My ZBrush installation is 3.5 r 2.

Thanks for the detail about selecting an alpha before using a brush - I had quite forgotten that, as it has been some time since I used ZBrush.

Works OK now, but I am still getting the WinTab error.

ZBrush has crashed a few times as well.
