Semi-transparent material for sculpting?

Is there a way to make a material semi-transparent while working on the mesh? When I have several subtools it would be very helpful if I could see the underlying mesh so that I can fit the other one better to its shape.

I’ve read a few tutorials, but they are all about getting glass effects in the render, that’s not what I need. I don’t want it transparent in the render but during sculpting.

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but, if for example you have subtools that have been painted, you can simply go to that subtool, then Texture> and turn off colorize. Then use the transparent feature to see the underlying geometrys. Later you can turn the colorizer back on.

Thank you for your answer, but that really isn’t what I need g

I don’t have any textures applied, so the textures are no problem. I’m in sculpting mode, I’m doing modeling not painting.
I want to change the shape of object 1 so that it snuggles close to object 2. That would be much easier if I could see through them.

I fact, what I need is not so much a material than a display option.

Turn on Transform>Transp. It’s also found on the right shelf, immediately above Lasso.

You can adjust the effect through the Preferences>Draw>InactiveOpc slider.

Yes!!! That was what I was looking for

Thanks a lot, you saved my day :+1:
