Seamless pattern?

I’m having trouble with a seamless pattern. I really liked the end picture created by the Projection Master tutorial Chapter 4, so after it completed, I exported a bitmap and then tiled it as my desktop wallpaper. The result is here:

I attempted to trim the edges of the image by 1 pixel all the way around which did not fix, and then by 1 pixel on the right and top, which was close, but there were still noticeable seams. Any ideas on what caused the visible seam, and ways that I might avoid it.

Thanks,

is it possible the image is not the same size as your desktop’s settings and it is set to tile images?

You need to MRGBZgrab the final render to avoid the lines on the document edges. Simply exporting the document is not good enough apparently.

Sometimes MRGBZgrabbing will not work for you either. Render effects such as DOF or antialiasing will cause thicker borders. Material modfiers such as cavity shading and color bump also result in non tileable renders.

If your document is truly tileable to begin with (before best rendering) you can use the script from this to resolve border issues. It also helps to keep shadows consistent across the border areas.

The script is functional right now but needs some extra polish. One day, before the manned missions to Mars, I will finish it.

I am glad you replied TVeyes…I missed your plugin somehow…and it looks likes its gonna come in handy.

That also reminded me there was a script that came with z1.55 called SeamAway that might do the trick as well…I don’t know if it works with Z2 though.

Cheers Aminuts, I had forgotten about that. As far as I remember the Seam Away script was used to create a seamless texture from a non tileable texture. Here the picture is already seamless. I don’t think the Seam Away script should be used for cases such as this.

Btw, in this case doing a best render and MRGBZgrabbing is enough to get rid of the lines.

Thanks guys! I’ll have to try that out.
