Sea Goddess WIP

This is my first post! I thought I post my WIP for one of my classes. I’m wondering if I should keep the drappery the way it is. Its suppose to be fishingnet wrapped around her. I hand stitched it in maya (which took forever).Anyone have any ideas for modeling fishingnetm in zbrush? I know you can do it with transparencies in Maya but Id rather not get into that. Let me know what you guys think! :o :white_small_square:

the fishnet is gorgeous… very impressive looking… I’d almost be worried that it distracts too much from your character (who is also fantasticly creative), but it’s really too early for me to say that since you probably have a lot of work yet to put into this character

Wow! What a great start!

thanks for the feedback!..I’ll have to play around with it and tone it down alittle bit maybe. I’ll have to see how I feel about it when I add more detail to her, maybe it might balance that contrast.:o

This looks great, im trying to figure out how you came up with the fishnet. Could you share how you created it?

Thanks for the responses, as far as the fishing net goes. I didn’t do anything fancy except put blood and sweat in maya. I used a pattern I googled and just modeled the pattern and stitched them together. To get the forms I just used the Lattice tool (maya). Only bad thing is you cant subdivide this in zbrush with out going super crazy, but i guess its high enough already

heres a top camera angle of the pattern i used. started from left to right*

i can think of two ways offhand that you could do it in zbrush, but the results may not be as good as you did in maya.

  1. import your reference pic and convert to alpha, then in alpha palette, hit make 3d, you may have to change resolution settings.
  2. on a poly plane using wrap mode draw out the fishnet or use a drag alpha as a mask, then you can either do a morphtarget, inflate, difference. or you can do a subtool extraction of the mask.

The benefit to the second method is you can make a bigger net because of the polyplane, you might even be able to wrap the plane around the body and try wrap mode from there but i’m not sure of the results.

EDIT: i totally spaced and forgot to tell you that’s a great model and scene, and great work and patience with the net, i look forward to seeing the finished piece.

thanks spaceboy  …I’ll have to try that out, Ill let you know how it goes soon.

update

Another update!..I was working the base this time and some other bits of detail on the skin. I changed the annoying teal color with something a bit more muted to bring out more of the detail. I’m trying to capture the movement under water of her dancing and to evoke some kind of emotion. I was listening to the Oblivion soundtrack while I was working on this…love it!
Noob question: how can i post the images to the thread without posting them as attachments? -_-…

Hey guys!..I took a wee little break over the summer, I tried to crack open some poly painting in Zbrush, never used it before.
I did some light manipulation in PS for one of the images…I’ve been milking this model forever and just want to be done with it…ha!

Sigh… Your work here is so awesome - I adore imaginative creatures like this! Would you be willing to supply a high res version for a wallpaper?

hey nb!

im really flattered you want a wallpaper of this lol…I was actually thinking about retexturing this with maps instead of the polypainting. When i have that done then Ill make higher rez images ^_^…ill keep you posted.

The update is amazing! The chain mail looks amazing now and not distracting.
Are you going to render this in Maya too? It would be really cool to see how you approach creating an underwater environment.

Cool Art:cool: And I like underwater scenes. Nice diorama.
