Sculpting in HD mode

Hi guys, I am HeeChung here. A junior 3D artist who have been using zbrush for 2 years time.
Previously was fine working with zbrush for sculpting.

But recently I was being requested to sculpt a model in HD mode which i haven’t been doing that before.
And usually I will export my decimated high resolution model and bake maps by using xnormal.

For now I face a problem which is I unable to export my HD model or even preview it full other then just having a “circle” zone for activate HD mode.
Beside, another question is that a model with HD mode turn off after decimated, will the details still remain?

Wish that someone can lend me a hand here.
Thanks.

Sorry that I can’t preview the work in progress for now.

I am also new to HD sculpting in ZBrush, but I believe you cannot see all of your model with HD details at once whilst sculpting due to the massive amount of polys involved.

However, in R2 there is an option under the render menu (in Render Properties) to render all of your subtools in HD. I havn’t tried it yet but I assume it will at least give you a full picture of your HD sculpting.

I don’t use the decimation tool but I do know there is no way in ZB to export an obj with HD details - If you want displacement maps you will have to do this within ZB.

Hope this helps.

Oh i see, very much thanks for helping. Because I am using maya to do the uv unwrap,
so I just wondering is there any way I can bring in my uv unwrapper and retopoed low poly model in and bake the maps out based on the new uved model.

You can use GoZ from Zbrush to Maya and back again if you need to work on your UV’s in Maya. Very simple and effective. If you are wanting to extract maps using a low poly mesh with UV’s (from Maya) and a high poly mesh with details then just import both as subtools and “ProjectAll”. This will Project the high res detail onto the low res mesh containing UV co-ordinates. You can then begin the map baking process.

Good luck!

Thanks Trist again for your reply.

And one more ques hope you can help me.
I use projectAll to transfer the details, I tried for few times but the projectAll seem will not project nicely, some part will have the sharp surface occurs. like one vertex being pull out…

You will have to tweak the Mean and Dist sliders until you get an accurate projection.

oh ok~! thanks, maybe i just try it few more times. might get what I want. Thanks.
