Sculpting human skull in ZBrush

Hey-hey!

I would like to request a crritique and help from the community  This time I post an early sculpt so I can get corrected earlier (unlike the previous sculpt I’ve requested help for on the later stages of the project, were correcttions were hard to introduce).

Please, could you correct me where I am wrong with major proportions? I really cannot get a good advice somewhere outside forums, so any help would be greatly appreciated

Here is an UPD:

Hey Yulia, I’m fairly new to sculpting myself, but from what I understand it seems like majority of the front profile is too vertical right now. I highlighted some areas in the front profile that stood out to me. I’ve found this method really helps when I’m trying to “checkpoint” my work.

Have a good day,

Оh, thank you so-so much! This is very helpful indeed! Esp. cross-checking! Where did you get this scull picture? I was looking for reference all over

I just typed in “3D Skull Scan” in google

Thank you

Hey-hey! Just made some improvements! May be someone could have a look at it and tell me how is it going?)

Hey Yulia, that’s looking a ton better! Great job. I still feel like the eye sockets are large, zygomatic bone is small, and the mandible is pointy, but just like anything else, I’d just say cross referencing a real skull section by section is the way to do it.
I’ve found that learning that way takes a while… maybe each day = one or two sections of the skull done perfectly. But in two weeks you can absolutely crush it if you stay consistent. I dono, I’m fairly new to sculpting myself, but that’s how I’m thinking about it right now.

If you haven’t checked this out yet, look at Anatomy for Sculptors

This book is AWESOME! Sort of expensive, but really well done.

Good luck with everything! Hope that helps

Hey! Thank you very much for kind words! I am so glad you are helping  I’ve got an update, btw! If someone could have a look at it… before I add another subdiv layer and start sculpting large details :))))

Here it is (projected view)

And my reference of 3d scanned skull!

Hi! It is getting better. The main flaw right now is that Zygomatic arch is fused with cranium. In reality there is a hollow space between them so Temporalis muscle can pass its fibers through it. Also, your reference skull is quite interesting (plus it is tilted a bit), but usually mastoid process (this bump behind the ear hole) projects downwards a lot and breaks the silhouette in side view. Also I suggest to sculpt a bit internals of nasal cavity and eye sockets. I bet just faking it would be enough, you don’t need to sculpt it 100% correct. At least suggest some of the Vomer bone (just google it if you don’t know).
Good luck!

Thank you so much for the reply and advice! I will use it and add the neccessary detail

And one more update! Please, if you have time, give me some advice on things that could be improved! I would be eternally grateful!
