Sculpting an a subtool under another?

Hey guys,

Is there by chance a way to sculpt on a subtool if another subtool is ontop of it? For example, if I had fingernails as one subtool, and I wanted to pull the “skin” under the fingernails up to mess around with it, is there a way I can get the brush to ignore the fingernails, so I can sculpt under and around the fingernails freely?

Thanks a ton for the help!

Isn’t there a transparency mode for subtools?

When you’re sculpting with SubTools, only the currently-selected SubTool will be affected. So if your fingernails are one SubTool and your fingers are another, sculpting on the fingers will not affect the nails in any way.

would be great to see subtools ’ fixed ’ so that inactive subtools cannot interfere with the current. having the ability to adjust levels of transparency would be enough even. the way subtools behave now makes little sense > that you can’t interact with them ( sculpting. posing ) and yet they get in the way. it’s zbrush having its cake. and eating it too

True, but when the fingernail subtool is visible, I can’t sculpt the skin under it. I’m guessing that’s normal function?

Mainly the dam standard brush has been giving me this unwanted behavior, I have solo on a hotkey so I have to constantly hide all other subtools in order for dam standard to work as expected. Otherwise the stroke “sticks” to or is influenced in some way by surrounding sub tools. I really wish I could get to the bottom of this.

I found this thread and tried to rest my brush as suggested but that is not working. I also have tried various lazy mouse on and off combos along with backfaceMask.

I have also tried turning on and off windows ink in the wacom settings as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
