Sclupt a cubic hole

Hi to all… I’ve got a problem. I’m looking for a way to dig a perfect cubic hole in a subtool (it’s a personal exercise to practice with zbrush and hard surfaces, I don’t want to use external editor like Maya).
I tried with remesh and subtract but the result doesn’t satisfy me (the remeshed shape is too far from the original, even with max resolution and a low polish value), tried with polygroup and automasking but I’ve got no result…

Any suggestion about this problem?

Thanks you for all the suggestion…

You could try this technique: http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Topology:_Mesh_Editing

After you have created the tunnel, you would then want to crease the edges so that they don’t smooth (and become circular) when divided.

Very interesting!! Thank you very much!

Today I’ve tried this way: masked a rectangular shape, invert the mask and with scale tool I’ve flattened the surface. With our suggestion retopologize the shape to mantain hard edges without subdivide too much is the final solution!

Thanks again!
