Scaling ruins mesh, uniform scale locked

Hi all, I’m getting two different problems with scaling a mesh. Can anyone help me solve these? For some subtools, scaling appears to affect some vertices to a different degree than others, so the more I scale my mesh the more ruined it gets. For another subtool, uniform scale appears to be locked and I can only non-uniform scale the mesh.

The reason I need to solve this is I sculpted a character’s head in a different file than the body but accidentally sculpted the head much larger. I put all the subtools in one file so need to downscale the head or upscale the body.

Make sure you have no mask on any of the polygons. Press Tool>Masking>Clear just to be sure.

Wow thanks markus_civis, that did it! I thought I had cleared all the masks but apparently I had forgotten to clear masks on the hair.
