Scaling and Retopology-Problem

Hi there.

  1. I´ve retopologized a head in Zbrush
  2. export the adaptive skin as an object
  3. Import the .obj in Silo with Import Scaling Options set to 1 and Export Scaling Option set to 1.
  4. Edit the mesh in silo to close some holes, but not changed the size or the location of any existing point.
Of course this will change the point order, but that shouldn´t be a problem because it´s only the retopology level 1 cage when imported back in Zbrush.
  5. Export it as an .obj with the exact same scale.
  6. Import the mesh in Zbrush. But the scaling doesn´t fit. It´s bigger than it is after step 2.

I first thought it had something to do with the perspective mode maybe (retopology in Zbrush seems to not work in perspective mode), but after trying all combinations there, it wasn´t a solution. I just don´t know what´s going wrong there.

I recommend editing the title of your thread to include the word “Silo” so it will flag down other folks who use Silo with ZBrush. Good luck.

append the zsphere “adaptive skin” as a subtool to the mesh you just retopoed.

THEN export out the .obj.

appending it as a subtool should “set” a scale for the object. if you don’t then Zbrush thinks funny. Anyway, see if that fixes your problem

Aurick mentions this in some other tread…but there are a million threads with the same problem.

good luck

Thank you for the tip. That´s what I´ve tried before, but I just imported the object as a subtool to the retopologize-zsphere. That´s not sufficient. But as you suggested, as a subtool to the original head, it scales right.
In Silo it opened with much smaller dimensions.
Made the changes, exported it back in ZBrush and…didn´t work
Appended it as a subtool to the original head again…and suddenly the dimensions were right.
I have to say workflows like that are really annoying and anything but enjoyable or userfriendly.

Thank you again for your help :+1:
