scale problem

hi there

i ve been trawling the forums and i ve seen a few people having problems with scale but wanted to post this anyway, see if anyone can offer some advice.

first off to be clear i m talking about ztools from 3.1 being used now in 3.5r2. Its all stuff thats been working fine for ages and was initially modelled in XSI.

ok

i exported an obj to XSI yesterday and went wtf when it came in way way smaller than things had been previously. I checked all my import export settings and they all seemed ok. I went back a few tool saves and found a version that was exporting correctly appended the subtool i had been working on ( it came in all diddy and small ). Which suprised me. So assuming id done something stupid i exported a high cage rescaled it to the right size and did a bit of messing with it til it was right. Problem sorted.

uh no

it did it again later in the day.

well to cut a long story short. I tracked it down to the fact that zbrush was applying a weird scale to the subtools ( 6.974357 ) but it was reverting this scale to 1 on the subtool i had been working on ( which was what was causing the problem )… i think at save time.

i checked some tools of another mesh which i hadnt worked on in 3.5r2 and it applied the same numbers although if i opened it in 3.1 the scale was set to 1.

I think i could probably fix it if i exported everything as obj and re made the tool / subtools / layers… but tbh that sounds like a massive faff. Im working on stuff that is interchangable ( clothes ) so i dont want to have to do this for everything. So i guess i ll just have to type the numbers in when it goes wrong.

Either solution leaves me feeling a bit un easy… So anyone got any advice? Is there something hidden elsewhere that im missing, anyone know why it is applying these stupid numbers?

Currently its only really 1 mesh thats giving me a problem, so if i need to rebuild that - im happy, but as long as i can prevent the problem happening to everything else in the first place.

cheers

I’m not entirely sure, but this thread may help you: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=66066

hi

thanks for the link although its mostly about using zpheres, my problem exists with files that were working fine in 3.1 and only since loading into 3.52 have they become messed up.

do u have any idea why a subtool ( in fact all of them in the tool ) that has a scale of 1 in the export in 3.1 would have one that is so different by just opening it in 3.52.

i just did a test using fresh .obj’s ( of existing meshes that i have used in 3.1 ) importing them clean into zbush - so they exist as a tool in their own right and on their own with no subtools and i still get a whacked out number in the export settings.

However if i take that obj into xsi ( where its wrong now - it was right before ) rescale it bring it back into zbrush, the numbers are now 1. If i export this again into xsi the scale is correct. However i did this yesteday and it broke itself later in the day.

Just not really sure whats going on now  Has something to do with this changed between the 2 releases? This is stuff that i ve been doing for years and never had a problem, just literally the last few days since 3.5 that i ve had any problem with scale in and out of zbrush at all.
