Scale Issue

Hey guys. So I’m having a scale issue problem with my model. I sculpted the high res, then retopod the sculpt in Topogun, and when i export the retopoed model and Import it into Zbrush, the mesh is smaller than the original sculpt.

I want to project the details of the high res sculpt onto the retopod mesh, but I know there is a better way than manually scaling one of the models to match. Anyone know?

Or is this a general scale issue inside of Zbrush…

I’ve had this problem before, but I had to fix it the hard way, aka scale it down and project, but this can get really annoying for EVERY model, there has to be an easier way to do this!

My workflow that I’ve adopted with Topogun and Zbrush is to simply:

  1. Keep Zbrush open the entire time. Do not close Zbrush or you risk resetting the scale, this is very important, rule number one, keep zbrush open.

  2. Export your model to be retopologized, nothing fancy here, just export.

  3. Open it as your reference in Topogun, retopologize until you’re done, export your retopology to get ready to bring back to zbrush for projection.

  4. Now, back in zbrush, select the tool that you exported from. Append the PolyMesh 3d Tool to it.

  5. Select the PolyMesh 3d Tool and go to the Import Palette and Import your retopologized mesh.

Now you have a 1:1 scale export/import workflow and are ready to project.

Any variance to any of those steps, especially closing zbrush will result in unpredictable (unless you have alot of time to sit and predict things like this) results.

I used this workflow all day every day when I used Topogun before switching to 3dsmax Freeform tools (better at retopology for me) and it was errorless as long as those steps were followed.
