Saving problem! please help (answered)

Hi guys,

I’m new at Zbrush and I have been working on it really hard.

However, I did such an easy (at least it seemed easy at first) mistake and I forgot to save my 3d model in proper way so after I close the program, there was nothing to continue modeling obviously.

To test it,I created another easy and fast model and tried to save it under Tool+save as, it saved it with ZTL format. But, somehow, the saved file appears with blank icon on my desktop, where I saved it.

And, when I go back to Zbrush, I can’t open the file cuz it look pale.

So, could you guys help/ tell me where the problem is?

Not sure what’s going on here. A pale file usually means it’s incomplete but ZBrush has fail-safe saving and will save a temp file first. ZBrush files won’t have icons and need to be loaded from inside ZBrush. Load a *.ZTL from the Tool>Load Tool button.

In future you might consider saving as a project (*.ZPR) through the File menu. This will save any models you have been working on. Save them to the ZBrush/ZProjects folder and they will appear in Lightbox.

Thank you Marcus. I think I figured that out.

By the way, I don’t have the file menu cuz I’m not using ZBrush 4. Mine is 3.12

Now, I save them in ZTL format and use it as a new tool for future workflow. OBJ works as well:) I wish I could keep texture, color,etc. on it.

Why are you using ZBrush 3.12? ZBrush 4 is a free upgrade to registered users.

Well, My major is car design and i’ve been using photoshop over 11 years. Accordingly, we are using photoshop most of the time for our car renderings. But, when I realized that people are not just using photoshop to do this kind of ultra realistic characters, I figured that the Zbrush is the best one to play around.
In school we have other majors as well. So, one of the kid in character design class was doing wonders and I liked it. I asked for Zbrush and he gave me this one(3.12).I didn’t put any code or something. so, when I try to upgrade to 4, it asks me activation code. That’s why I’m still playing with it.

It is illegal for him to just give you a copy of the software without officially transferring the license to you through Pixologic support.

I’m sorry, but we cannot assist you with your questions. You must delete the pirated copy of the software.

That’s what I did right after gave him a call. I just tried to make fun stuff out of it. Well, it’s illegal. Ure right. Sorry about that.

Just wondering if Pixologic is aware that Brothersoft.com still has a download of ZBrush 3.1 Trial version available here.
